Waiting Around the !@#$ing Bay
Besides adding an October post to this rarely used blog, this is a reminder to never do around the bay with potter or pinky unless they buy new tyres. A total of 7 puntured tubes for the day;
- Potter (2 to go with a flat from last year)
- pinky (2)
- Simon the customer (3 tubes!)
All this waiting in the cold resulted in us taking nearly 5hrs to depart geelong after covering a whopping 85kms. Next year its sorrento return with a big breakfast and coffee.

Blog Issues
NAB has again deferred our internet explorer upgrade from version to 6 to version 8. Simply this means when at work we are unable to post comments on BBTT anymore. Looks like it's back to the plethora of email and SMS ride updates.

Spring Riding
Another solid turnout by BBTT yesterday, riding the Nongs in almost forgotton warm weather. Mechanic had another problem with a flat tire so punishment for being late, was to chase us up the mighty devil's elbow. Pinky with all his gear on must have dropped a few more kg sweating on the climb and nearly even caught mechanic. The churchill drive section has been resurfaced and climbing up to one tree hill doesn't get much better. Sleepy took the honors riding the whole way up in the big COG!
After the devil's warm up it was off to Monbulk however pinky, joff, lollyboy and Chris (needs a nickname) had enough of climbing (why come to the nongs?) so they decided to ride to Olinda and back to Sass for some flat work. Not sure what went on up in Olinda but Basso, Potter, Gonz, Mechanic and Sleepy managed to ride down Sherbrooke rd, up the crescent and beat the flat boys to ripe.
The cakes have certainly improved at Ripe and BBTT took advantedge consuming frangipani tarts, struddle's, rocky roads and even the crust of raisin toast (BT). Pinky polished off the largest piece of apple struddle I've ever seen for breakfast without blinking. Debate raged over whether Spanglish's 40 reply all emails was the result of a virus from one of his favourtie cup websites.
Not much joy was spoken of the wet and freezing Degani King lake ride the previous weekend and pinky and mechanic are now members of the potter short cut club.
Only 4 weeks to around the bay so keep training.

Nongs Tour of Hell
Nongs circuit surrey hills > bayswater > belgrave > Monbulk > Mt Evelyn > inverness / ridge rds to summit (Basso special) > coffee at Ripe > home

Oh where oh where can Pinky be
Any hill takes him away from me
He's in hell, with legs cramping like wood
Will Pinky make it to Ripe, before he hurles
Pinky was all keen for a longer ride
We hadn't riden very far
There in the road, behind us all
On Col d' Boroni, his engine was spent
We all had to stop, and swerve to the left
I'll never forget the look on his face
The heavy breathing, pumping chest
The painful sigh of what comes next
Oh where oh where can Pinky be
Any hill takes him away from me
He's in hell, with legs cramping like wood
Will Pinky make it to Ripe, before he hurles
Two further climbs to weaken the legs
The rest of BBTT had gone ahead
But somehow Pinky pushed on his own
To inverness rd, whereby he said
What the F!@#, this cannot be real
His heart hit 205, cadence at 5
But Hamster was there to guide him through
He pushed on up to Olinda
But the legs cramped once again
F!@#$ riding, F!@#$ Basso

BMC - Another signing
BMC signed Philippe Gilbert today which is another powerhouse on the team along with the God of thumder and Big George. Yeah all great for the one day classics and cat 2 climbs on the tour but I would love to see a bus load of skinny arse hill climbing vampires from the basque country signing up.

June 26 - Jack-Assafras
Beautiful mourning to ride up a hill, even better to descend said hill with a warm escargot and hot choccie on board. The journey was a bit more leisurely than normal given the mechanic's absence, to the point that Super Mario and Skywalker were ambling down talking about the good old days when we were decent athletes. Before very long our focus shifted to the clapping noise fast approaching our derrieres. I was initially worried that Pinky had made a surprise return armed with one of his battery powered marital aids, but alas the ruckus was from 2 goons on skateboards firing off warning claps to the riders to move to the left as they came through at 45kmh+. As this unfolded in front of our eyes we thought to ourselves in unison "holy crap, they are going into this next corner at a pretty fair clip." Almost at that exact moment the bloke with the camera mounted to the front of his deck completely lost his shit, hitting the tarmac hard before slipping neatly between 2 poles, slamming into the mountain side and sliding on his balls for 20m+ before gravity pulled him to an abrupt halt. To give the poor bugger credit he bounced up pretty quickly with a big smile, only to be abused by a rider he'd overtaken only moments before coming to grief. The bloke on the bike furnished him with a rapid fire character appraisal along the lines of "you stupid fucking tosser", which i thought was pretty harsh given that he'd just inserted his testicles into the side on the 1 in 20, but each to their own opinion. So anyway, hopefully the Jack-Assafras skaters aren't too detered by today's events and return to the hills next week to put on another show. It was a truly outstanding performance!!!

How to handle an accident by yourself
Down in Cornwall on the weekend visiting some friends so ideal place for some riding and hill training prior to London to Paris. Got a great ride in along the coast, sunny weather and 4 sharp little climbs that ripped my Kloakle from my shorts. See bikely link below.
Classic point of the ride was me coming back into Newquay approaching a T junction ... no traffic either way so coming off a hill I didn't brake and rounded the corner.
Leaning into the right hander I didn't realise the opposite side of the road was a bend so instead of the road opening up my road was quickly running out. By the time I thought I've hit this corner a little too hot BINGO ... over the front bars summersault.
My first thought was I've managed to crash without an external influence whatsover ... Dickhead!
Second thought was how was the bike, bars bit out of shape, brakes offset a bit but wheels okay thankgod.
Third thought was did anyone see me? Look around, not a soul to be seen ... Phew!
Spent next 5 minutes on ride home with a bit of bark off the legs, blood and ripped shorts pissing myself laughing at how funny that must have looked.

The Creation of Wiggle
Spanglish's comment about the dildo is actually true. Company was set up to sell "pleasure" products. Turns out the owners of the company were right into bikes and decided to head that way.
Hence the name "Wiggle"!

THE MAN FROM DILDO RIVER by A.B. "Pinko" Patterson
There was movement on his reputation for the word had passed around
That the phrase he would regret had got away
And was heard by other riders - it was worth a thousand pound
And all wondered if this meant that he was gay
All the tried and noted riders approached the nasty homeward hill
Up Boronia by the houses and the cars
For the riders love hard riding where the roads rise higher still
But Tuscadero "prefers a dildo up the arse"

The Path of Hurt - La Haute Route
A mate sent me this ... he casually asked if I'd be interested.
I replied ...
"Riding London to Paris in June, will consider death next year when I have lost 90kg, found a third chain ring and lost MY FUCKING MIND!"
La Haute Route
English: The Path of hurt
An amazing race considering the cols they are taking in. Day 3 they've thrown in climbs up the Madeline, Telegraphe and Galibier over 160km ... fuck me ... Whooo shhhit ... I mean fuck me that is a day of death!

There's only one tour ...
There is only one tour in the world that would pride itself on pure punishment.
That, over 15 stages, would add 9 over 200km and throw in 26 categorized climbs.
That would prompt a former Tour De France winner to exclaim "I don't think I've ever seen stages so long, so hard and so spectacular in all my many years as a pro!"
That would consider this individual time trial humane ...

That would even consider adding the Zoncolan climb that averages 11.5% over 10.5km including 1km of climb just under 20%. Then add it after 154km of racing.

Anyone heading to le Tour?
Just wondering if anyone is heading over for the Tour this year? I am planning to be in Girona (my life long dream) and the Pyrenees just before the start of the Tour start from the 22nd June - 28th June before heading to London and am wanting to ride the Tourmalet and Aspin, does anyone have any bike rental contacts there? I don't want to drag my bike half way around the world and pay $#@!ing ridiculous airline prices.

Melburn Roobaix 2011
It's on 26 June 2011. You can see a bit of info at http://j.mp/eY0dRt.
Registrations open this Friday at noon (at http://j.mp/hguJdl) and it normally fills up pretty quickly. It's $36, but in the past it's been pretty loosely organised, and as long as one person registers to get the route map, you're all sorted.

Dear Bike track Commuter
I'm Sorry. I'm sorry I had just ridden through the mud for the past 20km and didn't look as clean cut, shaved and presentable as yourself. I'm sorry that I activated the lights for you whilst you hung back. I'm sorry that I wasn't rolling down the hill fast enough and you had to pass. I'm sorry that I jumped on your back wheel whilst we were going up hill. Yes you were doing an amazing 30km/hour (wow!) but on a MTB is a lot harder and I was after some help. But, to shake your head and bitch and moan that I was there ? So, I sat up and gave you a little clap. You are awesome. (The woman running enjoyed the clap) And I understand that you couldn't stop to see if the kid pushing his BMX was ok. You were in a race with yourself, to beat last Friday's time when you really nailed it on the bike track. Yes Trek man, you would of left work at 5.17pm (so you can get your rdo every fortnight) changed into your team kit and turned into Lance. Yes, I was on a fat ass mountain bike. Yes, I have a fat ass gut. And yes, I have a fat ass ass. But its just a b i k e t r a c k. However, should I see you on my road bike that is 5kg lighter with tyres 1/3 of the width, I will tear you a new asshole. That is unless the grade turns to anything greater then +3% where my chain will fall off or I will have some other weird mechanical.

Yes, another bike
Ok, so I promised in my other post to put up a picture of another bike that I just put together. So, here it is. I got rid of several bikes at home, to create, in my opinion, my ultimate bike (at least for the next 6 months). It is a Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL3. Weighing in at a miserly 6.1kgs, it is decked out with Campy Super Record, and Zipp 303's. The frame came from R&A, the Zipps out of Texas and the Super Record out of the UK. Other bits and pieces were lying around the house.
The best part? I am still probably the slowest in the group! But it is one super stiff ride, and I mean the bike, not me.

Can anyone help?

Previous post's by GI Joe and Spanglish have me thinking.
Does anyone have an idea of what sort of frame this is? Or how to find out?
From the horizintal drops, it is a track bike with a flip flop hub. Cog on each side.
Has three little flip top lids where I assume you add oil. Front and rear hbs and the crank.
But then would a track bike have lugs for a pump? Or for that matter, provision for brakes?
Also has cable routing lugs if that the term.
Apart from that I have nothing.

Evans Attacco!!
I've been enjoying some pre-season coverage (via Eurosport) of winter tours in France (Paris-Nice) and Italy the Tour Tirreno-Adriatico. By far the more exciting has been the hell hole that is a typical Italian tour and sea to sea the Tirreno-Adriatico.
Who else (but the Italians) would organise a stage covering 180km to then finish up a Castle wall ... 18% ... have a bite at the pic below. It is fact that last year some in the Groupetto had to actually walk their bikes up this finish.
Evans grabbed the leaders blue jersey (blue - sea to sea) yesterday by a slippery 2 seconds but glory of all fuckin glories he came out today on stage 6 and powered up the 18% finish dropping a few Italians on the way. His timing was impeccable and while it wasn't a dynamic explosion, it was a ground out pace that no one could match.

Freezing red toes
One of the joys of training for a brief summer of riding, as I again prepare for another London to Paris in June, is trying to ride / train in the depths of an English winter.
Headed out last weekend for a Surrey run to take in a few country lanes, Box hill and stop off at mates place down south. We'll no doubt hear a lot more about Box Hill as it has become part of the Olympic Games road race in 2012. A mere bump, no doubt, for the professionals but I recall the last ascent of Box Hill two years ago in a sportive called "The little lumpy". Climbing up its short zig, zagging road I spied something in the corner of my eye. Thinking it was an attack from the fat bastard I had just sat behind for the last 67km I then realised it was a horse walking in the field beside me. In between losing breath and consciousness I calculated "Le Cheval" must have been walking at a speed of about 6km per hour to overtake me ... or it was in fact standing still and was going backwards.
It was a cold Saturday, freezing in fact. After two hours of cycling, in a group of 5 blokes I had just met, we were asking each other if anyone knew what frostbite felt like in their toes. It felt like I was riding on stumps as my feet were numb, frozen. When we stopped for a break I resorted to taking my shoes and socks off to massage some feeling back into my feet. Unfortunatley I forgot that during New Years in Barcelona my girlfriend had painted one of my toenails red (for good luck ... it's a Spanish thing to wear red underwear on New Years Eve ... she wore red underwear I got a red toenail ... I'm not gay ... there's nothing I can say here to help is there??!!!). It's an interesting dynamic when you've literally just met five men to ride with, you're the only Australian ... and now you're quite obviously the only man in the group with a Ruby Red toenail, I didn't get asked too many questions after that.
The days riding ended with me pulling into my mates cottage in Alford, 80km of freezing cold and the usual British fare of short sharp hills through beautiful countryside. I immediately asked him for a bucket of luke warm water in which to put my feet into to thaw them out to which he replied "What the fuck is that on your toe?"

Now you may say-ay I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day we'll join up
And we ride less random
Imagine all can update
I wonder if you can
Go to find the rides
BBTT members have planned
Imagine this on some web page...and the Link on BBTT...ee-ee, eeeee.
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one.
I hope some day you'll join us
And the gruppo will ride as one
It isn't hard to do
with days and times and courses
And style of riding too
Now you may say-ay I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day we'll join up
And we ride less random
Imagine all can update
I wonder if you can
Go to find the rides
BBTT members have planned
Imagine this on some web page...and the Link on BBTT...ee-ee, eeeee.
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one.
I hope some day you'll join us
And the gruppo will ride as one
