Shit Riders Club Strikes Back
SRC was out in force on Sunday and through the week.
The young jedi tempted the dark side for a mountainous adventure. The SRC founder sensed the weekening of the force as trusty Yoda made for the shoreline however his ambush was thwarted on the first attempt by an overexuberant bunch. As he lay in wait Le Count of Spanglish clawed his way at the rear of the fellowship, oblivious and then surprised, nah, startled at the sudden appearance of the SRC.
It only took a few spell binding words before Spanglish was in the grip of his vente curse(i.e. you are compelled to remain within the twenty km/hr range). As Spanglish accommodated in meaningless conversation SRC proceeded to cast his influence further afield and to the very heart of The Force. SRC struck decisively from distance at Skywalker's steed holting their journey.
The main party was caught but before SRC cold exact any force they conjured a hideous reply in the shape of....Inclineous Tootoppous...this to SRC as Kryptonite is to Mr red Underpants or Edward Beale to Sampson. SRC was powerless. All seemed lost until the top where SRC managed to regain his senses but with only time to capture part of the group including the Jedi himself.
The return favoured SRC as they catapulted down the mountain...clearly the inhouse training was paying off. SRC had control again...for a while...alas, Inclineous Horrilbilous reared from the earth to exact hiw own revenge while comforting the fellowship.
Accepting defeat SRC retreated to his lair, his trusty companion around his waste.
Next time would different but what dark weapon would he reveal.

Worth a browse
Just added a link below to totalcycling.com. They've just reduced their postage to Aus to $13.50 for less than 2kg. Some of their stuff is dearer but some is the cheapest. Up til now the postage cost and timing (allow 2-4 weeks) has made it not as attractive.
Wheels, groupsets, helmets, shoes and computers are often cheapest in market. TRy out the frames. I belive they're the cheapest new Colnago, DeRosa, etc.
I've bought several things over the years.
Yes my wheels would have ended up 50-60 cheaper if I waited til yesterday.

Long story short, a friend of a friend now works for Avanti. They no longer carry Specialized and are selling their existing stock at a new store @ 159 Smith Street, Collingwood.
Go and talk to Jamie 0418 121 596 and say Jamie sent you.
They have Road, Mtb and kids and accessories.
I said I would post it up, he is going to send me a flyer at some stage.

Pegasus Sports to register as Professional Continental Team for 2011
This is the team Robbie McEwan has signed with next year.
Its the Australian team that was trying for a Pro Ranking.
In short means he won't be able to race in all the big events. Pegasus should recieve some wild card entries but is ashame considering he is in his "twilight" years.

Rapha and iPhone
Here's something we may want to give a try, Rapha has released its Rapha Rendezvous app to help riding groups get together, it's free, I have started a group called "Back by 10:30", might be good to try and coordinate the team. See more here:

Bike Porn
Finally decided to build a "fixey" for riding here in London. "Fixey" lasted for about a day as I soon realised fixed gear and London streets = death wish.So changed to single speed 17t with the original front cassette 54. The frame is circa 1986 and actually feels better going up a hill than my new Trek.
Went pimp and got a red chain used for BMX cycles which weighs a ton but considering weight was not a consideration in this build it was choice for durability. Only maintenance was having to drill out the existing hole for front brake to fit Shimano Tiagra.

Laurent Fignon est Mort!!

La Professeur is dead, died this morning of advanced cancer in his guts. He was still commentating for France television when Skywalker and I watched the tour in France this year.
Skywalker and I kept joking about the poor bastard with no voice battling on like some Tour cyclist climbing up a mountain unwilling to admit defeat ... the studio should tell him to stay home ... we then realised it was Fignon and his voice was ravaged by the chemo ... yep, good call fellas!!
Classic quote by Fignon when a fan recognised him and remarked "Hey I remember you, you're the guy who lost the tour by eight seconds!"
Fignon replied: "No monsieur, I'm the guy who won it twice"

For the Mechanic
I know we had this thread somewhere, thought I would continue it here.
This is the Garmin 800. Have not had a chance to look at, one of the guys stumbled upon it today.
It is the replacement for the 705 and has maps, so the office tells me.

Greetings from the Pyrenees
Bonjour,
Greetings from Le Tour from Connor and the Muppet!
Just finished our third day of riding through the south of France. A short warm up ride on day 1, about 90km's yesterday including the last 10k's of the course. Connor unleashed Gonz on the sprint for a narrow win to the Muppet! Bumped in to Luke and his entourage in Revel - fair to say he was hanging out to get his hire bike. Did about 100km's today including wathcing a stage sprint sprint in Mirepoix.
Weather beatiful, food great.
We will send some happy snaps next time just to rub it in a bit more!

Get me to the Pyrenees on time.
"I wasn't surprised that I couldn't stay with Contador on this climb. Bjarne [Riis] warned me today that I shouldn't panic when I wasn't able to stay with Alberto when he attacked because the climb suited him much more. I think I did pretty good by losing only ten seconds.”
Yeh, "the climb suited the [canary] more than me?" He forgot to add "...because it was uphill!"
If he doesn't get 60+ seconds more before the TT day it'll be the canary's again and Shrek can head back to the swamp.

I Just Ran Over a Hamster!!
I could see my Tour de France dreams disappearing right in front of my eyes as The Hamster failed to negotiate the Camberwell tram depot tram tracks right in front of me. I braked hard, but to no avail. The severity of my attempts to stop ( I really did try Joe!!) probably only deepened the imprint of my black chillies on the Hamster's back. Unlike Tour de France riders who have failed to successfully negotiate stray labradoors, by some miracle I stayed upright after flying over the splayed prostrate Hamster!
Joe, I hope you are OK mate and next time we will skip the Chapel Street lessons on how to ride in tram tracks!

Winter Madness - Mounting Donna
Matt the field mouse of Flanders, who is also a little mad, has suggested that his Topbike Tour mates, Muppett and Connor, are a little soft if they don't join him tomorrow am to see how his new 27 cluster copes mounting Donna. Not feeling threatened at all at the prospect of being labelled "soft", we have agreed to meet at the Launching Place pub at 7.30am if anyone is feeling a little like tabogganing??

Whittlesea Challenge on Saturday
Who is a starter for the Whittlesea Challenge on Saturday am? I have checked the course and I am a little concerned that there are not any short cuts for those of us who get a little cold and tired after the first climb so Potter, Muppet and Connor might have to endure the whole course!

The Goat's Head Soup Revival in June
I think we've started something here.
I suggest we devise our next adventure ride for June perhaps a little flatter but new area of Victoria given the chance of inclement weather.

The Perils of Big Game Hunting in Kooyong
And as he wiped the blood from his brow and mounted his trusty steed again he recalled his father's words. "One day, when the demon is slain, the volcanoes will rupture, cities will fall and grown men will sing songs about you...ride long, son, until that day."
Thank you for your kind tunes. Nicki finally finds us funny. Somebody bank them somewhere for posterity.
