Further to August's original posting I should confirm that my membership has been renewed BUT as and honorary memeber. It turns out that as I was going over my bike 12 days ago I noticed my back wheel free rolled quite well but while peddling there was considerable resistance. I pulled cranks gears and chain apart and lubed but to no avail. Clearly there was something wrong with the freewheel so off to trusty Grand Prix Cycles and sure enough a "washer/ring" had broken. Effectively I could roll well but as soon as I peddle the rotation was as iff I had brakes on (alla - climbing)
All this means is I don't have an excuse but I've retained membership.
It might have been prudent to have kept that up your sleeve for (a) the fantastic ride "hey losers beat your asse with a broken wheel" or (b) the SRC ride "hey, smug pricks, would have beaten your asse but LOOK I have a broken wheel. Now your just the honoury member and ex-chairman of a club you started with an exspense account showing a wheel rebuild and no chance of getting some new members to bolster your finances. How about the Getting Faster Club (GFC). We get loads of people to join then tell them that it will collapse unless they inject loads of funds into the Club... which we walk off with, and buy a bloody fast car!
The fact remains. I am not merely a domestique within Liquishit SRC. Infact, I am captian and my crocodile antics along the forgiving Beach Rd didn't fool any one as I vistually ground to a stop.
In any case, I'm glad I discovered the broken wheel as it means I can shave minutes off my 1:20 climb and only be minutes behind even the slowest of other SRC members.
I take it you're not coming to Geeeeelong/Torquay??? The Doctor and marathon Man were thinking of riding there on Sat morning.
There is a group leaving Cafe Racer at 6.30am Sunday to ride to the Worlds (via ferry). Other than that I don't know of any organised ride/meeting. Quite happy to watch the event on TV too..well the last couple of laps anyhow!
