In my opinon the Best Grand Tour. (Let me know if you think different)
And the one I can't work out why SBS show's it live for the duration???
Difficult to quantify as the best, afterall, it doesn't have the best riders. Also, it tends to favour climbers (Vuelta too), whereas the Tour allows good TT/climbers to win. This gives the Tour the edge as it means teams have to allow for attacks from other styles of riders. More talent, more options. The Giro does have some stonking climbs though.
ReplyDeleteSo, in conclusion, surely the best race is the one which is most entertaining. ie Flanders was entertaining, watching Shrek 2 - Gilbert the Movie at LBL was not.
Shit, worried you were going to say the Tour of Britain!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Welsh mountains are as tough as their signage!
ReplyDeleteI phone Bertie this morning and he said:
ReplyDelete"The difference between the Tour and the other Grand Tours is that the mountains are being climbed at an extremely high speed and the flat days absolutely wear you out, while in the Giro they're a little more bearable.”
I replied "si, que es lo que encontré"
Let's face it. If you don't TT well you won't win TDF. Infact Only recently they stuffed up and basically handed it to the fastest TT team. The Giro establishment believe a champion is a champion climber. Italins love climbing across mountains because it means you get to go down over mountains and Italians love going down over mountains....you think I jest!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer giro's track and this years a ripper but would like more of the key riders.
Man, I be happy with an Italian girl who loved going down, a mountain too.
