On my annual coastal holiday break, I managed to offset my large dietary increase with some tough road and mountain bike rides as follows;
Road - melb to blairgowrie via arthurs seat - 2x flinders loops, with the nasty cape schank wall.
Mountain - Crazy 3 hour ride with the Red Hill riders group. Did about 800m of vertical dirt climbing (1 Arthurs seat is 250m), while the descents were pretty scary on the shite bike I used. Not sure where the enjoyment comes from decending a blind single track (given the recent rain the bushes either side of the track were taller than me) with hairpins evey 100 metres.
I enjoy my mountain biking but, when the weather is good, its the road bike for Basso.
Doode, i rode to Arthurs Seat with the rarely seen Bald Eagle Barrett. Nice bit of sunburn on the way back too!! Quite like the concept of a ride down there with a pizza stop at Mont Alto.
Currently down at Inverlock. There is a locol group that meet Saturday Sunday Tuesday Thursday. Rode with them today and Sunday. On Sunday about 30 people. Found myself at the front. Sitting on 40 45k. Found I was taking far to many turns for a group of thirty. Turns out the group had split w 6 of us at the front. Fell back into the main group and spat out the back with half a dozen or so. They only do a 42 k loop. On the Saturday they did it in an hour. You do the sums. In short a hard group to ride with very strong In regards to Basso's post. I am loving the mountain bike way too much at present, dare say, finding the road boring. However the road riding is suffering. I am getting stronger and heavier with the mtb. Makes it hard for the fittness on the hills for the road
Love to do the odd technical MTB track. I added a You Yang venture to the schedule before I read this. Great fun. Won't ever give up the rode but MTB on these tracks is ace.
Did a PB Post mio-cardial infarction up the 1/20 thanks to the wheels of Tiger and Potter. A cracking 22mins even but felt good. I'm coming back. Yes. Yes. I know. -3 mins before I'm fully out of SRC.
