Desmondo, Connor and Luke 4 k's from the top of The Tourmelet (now fondly referred to as "Teddy"). Des and Luke having completed the climb and Connor still with som work to do. Of course, they started hours before me.
Yep. Plastic. No. Have a carbon seat post on the Scott, carbon forks...does the same thing...whats great about plastic is some of the shapes they are coming up with...very funky top tubes. Anycase, Scott replaced my old frame (crack) which combined with the new groupset means i have a new bike so next one is another few years away and as stated previously will be titanium!
They say titanium will last a lifetime! Good that Scott replaced the frame. Can't say I agree w the cabon forks and post being the same thing as a full carbon bike? I notice a huge difference withe the caad5 to the SL2. But then I guess they are about 7 years difference in age.
Not saying they're the same thing, but, everyone keeps saying "its a big difference" etc but really we are talking of small differences. They're may be more in it if the distances being covered daily/weekly were vast but that's no the case. The most difference I ever feel is between wheelsets. I can't see how people are our level are saying they get a better reaction from the frame when pedaling, that would assume we are of a fitness level where how we feel on that day isn't a factor. I would read this: www.sheldonbrown.com/frame-materials.html#ride which I believe concludes that the rear stays/seat position/frame shape have more to do with ride quality than the frame material. The same can be said for performance. When you compare your two bikes if they are not 100% same design/size/weight its no longer a viable comparison. Its not that i am against carbon its that i am not willing to fork out a few grand to get something only equally as fast and I can lose the 1kg in weight by not drinking so much!!
Yes to the wheels. Huge difference. I noticed a descent difference between my mavic's Ksyriums (not a big fan) to the mavic open pros with da hubs. Now that I am using the carbon tubular's its hard to go back to clinchers. The lighter the wheel set the bigger the difference, especially climbing! Simple
Turn it up you guys. You make it sound as if it's about practicality and performance. If that was the case we wouldn't have high heels and fish net stockings...and then where would we be? No. It's more about passion, fantasy and adventure. Three alloy frames Spanglish - it's time to move on. You won't live long enough to love all frames so court the ones you can at every opportunity.
There is a world of cycling to experience so let's not forget why you paid a bomb to watch a bunch of wiry men in lycra race bikes and pretended to your your family there was any other reason you gave your hard earned cash to the Frogs....passion, fantasy and adventure!!!!
Hey Radar, when did you last climb up a hill to notice the difference between one set of wheels and the other? It's all about having a perfectly fitted frame and having a decent set of kiwi fruits to enable you to push the pedals around swiftly anyway....the difference between wheels and everything else is just faffing around the edges....and stop zooming in on my pink water bottle...you're making me nervous!
No-one else but the Mechanic wears fish nets and high heels when riding, and lets not mention your fish net knicks either. I also will remind yo, you had to get yourself sacked so you could afford to buy your plastic bike. Passion, fantasy and adventure? have you got some porn your not sharing! Running is tedious, and cycling is just one step better. Sitting in a bar overlooking the Med, drinking and eating...now thats worth pursuing. Go Skywalker - the Terminator of the Tourmulet!
Also ... I recall that corner well as it is from there to the top that I found air a scarce commodity and the smell of burning hair as my arse began dragging on my back tyre.
Hmmmmm, i just love the smell of burnt GP4000's in the morning! Yes what were you subjecting to your lean to(a)rt frame? Man, at the mo that pic looks surprising like here, its colder than Julie Bishop's fanny. Fucking bikes in the fucking shed cos its fucking raining all the fucking time. Bloody microwave blew too. Told the kids not to play inside it. Degani Kinglake ride is only 6 weeks away and ol' banana boy Liggett is the Event ambassador "well we've never seen that before..."
Banana boy at Kinglake ... I got a sneek peak at him and Paul at Bordeaux calling the race. Ben's mate got us press passes, awesome. Saw Cav come screaming past looking back wondering if he was sprinting in the tour or back into Melbourne after a ride to Mordi. Mate got a Trek 1.5 compact Heard good things about the frame, strong aluminium and suits larger chaps like myself and Bontrager wheels and a few other bits and bobs it was a bargain at £750. I bought it for the frame to speck it up later with some deeper wheels. Just finishing off a single speed build at the moment (pictures to come). Found myself an old 1986 Peugeot Frame (Tourmalet) so not going to waste the Trek on London roads going to work will use this little baby. Hope the weather picks up mate for a bit of training!!
Nice photos guys. Thanks for the post. Zoomed in to ben's pink water bottle for a closer look only to see a shaved/waxed set of pins!
ReplyDeleteNice work luke.
Des, you could've shaved...your face whilst doing the legs. What's the bike porn on offer and where did you get them?
ReplyDeleteSpanglish, Was that Look a plastic bike?
ReplyDeleteIf so, has your opinion changed?

ReplyDeleteBen / Joff its good you caught up with Pat Rafter over there.
ReplyDeleteSpanglish must the be the light but the legs were actually unshaven.
ReplyDeleteBike porn question ... is that what am I riding in the pic???
